Over the past few days, I've gotten a number of comments about people being offended by the memes used as cover images for the caps. Originally, I thought these would be a little different and less time consuming than the stock images I've used prior. Most of these were found on social media feeds and sometimes carry an anti-trans nature.
In case you couldn't tell, I'm FAR from being transphobic. Why the hell would I be operating a TG blog for nearly a decade if I was?! These were supposed to be kind of a tongue-in-cheek observation on how the vanilla public sometimes views gender transformation.
But since it's causing me to lose fans and people hate me, I'll stop. I'm also canceling "Conversative Week" which was going to be a week of caps featuring men turning into Conversative God/Trump-loving women! Sorry to spoil your dreams!
Carry on as usual friends.
Love,
Courtney
I love 💕 your caps. Courtney. I would love to see a cap about fishnet pantyhose.
ReplyDeleteAnd honestly if people are that offended by someone else’s viewpoint they aren’t the open and tolerant ones even asshole conservatives ,socialists, anarchists, etc are entitled to their opinion and if someone doesn’t like it they are free to not listen! So in conclusion please continue your amazing captions and don’t let the truly intolerant ones censor you and your jokes or art!
ReplyDeleteI also love the idea of the conservative week because I’m much closer to conservative then anything else(I’m more of an anti government anarchist!)but of the two parties the republicans are closer to that so I would like to plead with you to at least do conservative week I would offer to pay but I’m really tight on money since my dads stroke!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking your fans seriously enough on this one... There are lots and lots of trans-friendly facebook meme groups made by trans people if you want to share some of those!
ReplyDeleteBut the ones you'd been using... we come to TG Land to escape that kind of vitriol, not to see it spread, even as a misguided joke. Those of us who are trans know all too well how the general public thinks about us, we don't need reminders from allies.
I think someone who isn't transphobic, (which I don't think you are - we all make mistakes), wouldn't want to share that kind of stuff on the merit of the messages they send, but if it's the loss of fans that changes your mind instead, well, I'm glad folks spoke up...
Happy capping!
Conservative?
ReplyDeleteAnything to do with Cheeto-Head or "CON"-servatives makes me want to barf. Please do not ruin your site with anything that even remotely refers to them.
ReplyDeleteI’m coming at this a month late but as someone who left a comment a while back and is curiously checking back to see if things changed I’m glad you changed course. I didn’t necessarily think you were transphobic but a lot of those memes got a little too “real” for me. That said, I actually would love caps about forced fem in conservative cultural contexts. There’s always something really campy and fun about the idea that an individual, family or community with strict ideas of gender roles would go full stepford on a slightly wimpy guy rather than forcing him to “man up”. My main feedback is just that like context matters - when somethings inside the content of a caption there’s like a fictional frame that isn’t there when you’re taking random memes and putting them right on your blog.
ReplyDeleteMost importantly though, thanks for taking feedback, making a positive change, and not digging in and claiming offense that people were offended in the first place. It’s a level of maturity I don’t usually see on a day to day basis, and it makes me optimistic to see it on a silly TG Caps Blog :D Keep telling stories as you seem to naturally do and this will be just a bump in the road.
