Courtney at the Movies: Sam (TG FILM) Review

For those of you who have been in a cave and have not heard of this film, it is about a chauvinistic male who after visiting a 'magic' shop one night, wakes up as a girl the next day and ends up starting to develop feelings for 'her' best friend while trying to change back. Plot sound familiar? Of course... this plot has been beaten to death! Whoever came up with the idea for this film and/or wrote the script definitely visited Fictionmania and other TG sites more than a few times. It borrows heavily from a certain long-time TG Land franchise.

A little about the history of this film. It has been a popular subject in TG Land for about four years because of people wondering when it was going to be released. On Metamorphose, there have been several threads about the film and it may hold the record on that site for the most amount of posts on one subject. Here is the original thread: http://metamorphose.org/thread/show.htp?threadid=15376&se0=thread&se1=show

Then another one: http://metamorphose.org/thread/show.htp?threadid=16953&page=-1&se0=thread&se1=show

And current one... with history threads: http://metamorphose.org/thread/show.htp?threadid=20505&page=-1&se0=thread&se1=show

For the past year or so, the film debuted in the indie film festival circuit. It was FINALLY released to the public this week. You can get the film on some of these sites to stream and have to wait about a month for a DVD:

iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/sam/id1150736295

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Sam-Natalie-Knepp/dp/B01M1K7Q5Q/ref=tmm_aiv_swatch_1?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1475109666&sr=8-1

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/movies/details/Sam?id=grV6X5xIM4U&hl=en

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grV6X5xIM4U

Now here's my review:

It's too little, too late. On the surface, it looks like a fun story, however it is one that we have seen and read MANY times and does not really offer anything new. Someone on a message board talking about the film made a very good point. Us Gender Transformation fans get a "real" full-length TG Fiction movie only about once every 5-10 years, so when there is one released, expectations are high. And by TG Fiction movie, I mean a movie that is heavily based on the material that we see in TG Land. Before this movie, it was Victim (2010),  It's a Boy Girl Thing (2006),  Switch (1991),  Cleo/Leo (1989), and Goodbye Charlie (1964).  Of course, we also have serious movies about transgenderism like Transmerica (2005) and other gender themes, but I'm not putting those in this category. The same goes for crossdressing films like To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar (1995).

Part of me wonders who the target audience was for Sam. It labels itself as a Comedy/Fantasy/Romance, but parts of those are very weak. Crossdressing films use to be released often for comedic reasons but I don't think they have been coming out (no pun intended) lately because of changing public tastes and education. So in other words, Sorority Boys (2002) and The Hot Chick (2002) don't count here as well. The idea of a chauvinist male being transformed into a woman has been so overdone, the comedy element is lost. The other jokes in the film seem very weak. It seems like this movie would not appeal to the general comedy/indie movie fans. On a romance level, the film also falls a little flat as it seems forced in the movie. Sam looks at her best-friend for comforting and help, but ends up having feelings for him (yet another cliche). So who is this film suppose to appeal to? Was it made just for the TG Land community?

It is very obvious that this film was shot on a tight budget. The acting isn't the worst I've seen for an indie film, but isn't the most convincing at times either. Many scenes are shot in the same locations and there is NO actual transformation scene via special effects. He just wakes up as a girl. If this film was indeed intended for the transformation community, they should have put some effort into this and spent some movie to make it happen. That's why we are watching the movie in the first place. It also takes a while for any progression in feminization to occur. When there is something transformation related, it is very short. There was plenty of opportunity to show gradual feminization here.

Without spoiling the ending, all I will say is that for those who have watched it; notice anything wrong here? (Look for clues in similar spot). I just disappointed by the entire movie. The anticipation was high due to this being a rumour online for years, but it just didn't live up to any expectations. I enjoyed Victim (2010) and The Skin I Live In (2011) much more, but maybe that's because I'm a horror fan and into the more forced, realistic, and disturbing side of TG Land. Of all the movies I mentioned in this post, The Skin I Live In is my favorite because of the high-quality production, great acting, realistic plot, and horror/suspense elements. That along with Victim are about unwilling guys who are really physically forced.

The Hit Girl (2013) was an Indie/low-budget film as well and I enjoyed that a lot more than Sam. At least it had an original plot and fun scenes.

There is another TG movie coming out "soon" called The Sex Trip: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4357714/

The description states: After a shallow womanizer refuses a mysterious homeless woman's request for a kiss, he wakes up the next morning to discover he's been changed into a woman.

Why do all of these movies have to deal with a womanizer or someone who has done something against a woman? Why can't we get one about a guy who gets feminized by accident or something? Something tells me this may be my next movie review.

Sam: 2/10

National Sissy Search Video

Nikki from http://feminizationstation.blogspot.com/ just released this video which is a "parody" similar to that of TG Tales and Mindi Flyth's material. Although the audio is a little rough, there are some pretty funny commentary. I like how she lists who feminized each boy and why. Thinking about doing some of these myself if I can find the right material!

Poll Results and Future Story Commentary

Here are the results from the poll last week about what stories people are most looking forward to. I was actually surprised that "The Daughter I've Wanted" won. Some of the others had age regression themes, but I guess it's something about a husband becoming a daughter? New Show had some comments and I'm looking forward to that one! The cap inspirations can be found in this post: http://courtneycaps.blogspot.com/2016/09/5th-anniversary-with-previews-of.html

All of these stories will be released at some point and the poll had no weighting on the release schedule, especially since some are horror based and will be released next month. Plot Twist: see new covers below. The poll was mostly to see what themes would be most popular.

In other news, Under the Poms is doing well on Amazon. Lulu doesn't have a chart that is similar. The story got as high as #4 and has been staying in the top 15 for the most part. It's very difficult nowadays to hit #1 on the transgender fiction chart since people are releasing these mega bundles for dirt cheap and just tag every single category. So they could be listed in Transgender Erotica and the stories have nothing to do with TG Fiction at all. Annoying, yes. If you have not bought the book yet, I will say that if you enjoy the content on this blog you will love the story. Every theme we mostly cover is in that story including forced feminization, age regression, cheerleaders, etc. If you have read it PLEASE leave a review on Amazon. It means a lot to us. Also if you are one of those people who is nervous about buying TG Fiction online, Dee had a good post about privacy. It's really easy to make a second Amazon account and just buy an Amazon gift card to use!

There were two upcoming stories that were not mentioned in the poll post. The first is the "sequel" to the book 2 TG Age Regression Stories. What is the perfect name for something like this? 3 TG Age Regression Stories of course! The 2 TG Age Regression Stories book bundle came about when I was hit with a lot of commission requests earlier this year. One stories will continue in the same universe with different characters and another is similar to the other. The third story will be Brittany Montgomery's debut with In Your Dreams Publishing! All of these stories are magic based and short stories. If you have been thinking about getting a custom story, please e-mail me since I'm only taking a few and Fall/Winter is the best time for me to write!

Claire and I are working on a short story that is homeage to something that some of you may have seen before...  SEE is a horror story of two guys who wake up in an apartment with no windows and a sealed door. Priscilla the Doll appears and notifies them that have been selected for a game and need to complete certain tasks in order to win with the fate of the loser being unknown as well. What they don't know is that each "game" will involving feminizing themselves. How far will they go for a chance to escape?

Courtney

5th Anniversary with Previews of Upcoming Stories (Caps) & POLL!

I never thought that this blog would hit a 5th year anniversary, but today is today. There were were some changes over the years and after my breakdown in December when the blog was pulled for a week, I didn't think I was coming back. Luckily, the support from gender transformation fans keeps me going.

Here was the first post ever made on this site: http://courtneycaps.blogspot.com/2011/09/welcome-bio.html

Thanks to Dee who originally recommended that I start a blog on Rachel's Haven as well as the many people who have submitted content and helped out over the years. And of course, the people who visit this blog on a regular basis!

Usually on anniversaries, we have a cap special. Claire and I made a bunch of caps last week that have been appearing and will continue for the next two weeks. For this post, I did something similar to the Under the Poms post with having a poll. Each of these caps comes from a story idea we have for a future story. Some have been planned out in details while others are just ideas at the moment with no planning. There's a new franchise that I have in mind about a hospital that has developed a new way of gender change in realistic format that you will see in various caps. You can vote for which one you want to see most on the left side panel on the home page.

New Story Ideas:

Babysitter to Wife

Seniors in College

New Show

Minder:

The Daughter I've Wanted

Caps already posted, but still ideas for stories:

New Friends Are Great (aka Becoming Latina)

Mate of Honor

Which one do you want to read the most? New Show is one of my personal favorites. I think it's one of the best caps I've made recently and Claire thought it was a very good setup as well.

Hope everyone enjoyed these and hope for more years to come!

This may be the most anticipated story we have written and I'm very happy we were able to finish this for release this weekend. Our 5th year anniversary is tomorrow, so consider this part of the present! In true "back to school" fashion, after you are finished reading it, submit a short essay of our thoughts of the story in the form of a review :) .

The idea came a few years when Claire and I first started writing novels. It's origins go back to March 2014 when we had a voting contest to pick an idea for the "next" novel. Here is the original cap that inspired the story: http://courtneycaps.blogspot.com/2014/03/under-poms.html

Voting took place and Under the Poms won: http://courtneycaps.blogspot.com/2014/03/voting-for-novel-is-officially-open.html

http://courtneycaps.blogspot.com/2014/03/under-poms-is-winner.html

We started on this in June 2014 with the idea. I still want to turn some of the others into stories. The one about the guy taking over his ex-wife's life may be a Halloween story this year. In case you are wondering what is happening behind the scenes here, we had a very busy summer and some stories were not finished in time for release as well as some ideas scrapped. We have started writing parts of Under the Poms: Part II but there will be other books in between including Halloween themed and Christmas themed ones soon. Claire and I meet about twice a week now and pretty much have turned this into a part-time job.

The book was pushed back after a while because we had other story ideas and planned to finish writing Part II before releasing Part 1. We changed our minds and Under the Poms went through a major revision over the summer. The story originally took place in 1997. The reason behind this was because we were going to have the franchise start that year and work its way up to current time. Each story would take place the year after the last book. This was scrapped so we had to update almost every outfit in the book as well as pop culture references. The book was going to be illustrated but it feel through and I wanted to get this out. It could not have been completed without the help of Mindi Harris who did the editing and will be editing future books. Alexis helped with the photomanipulation of the cover!

Here are some key notes about this story:
1. Very detailed realistic transformation scene
2. Cheerleading Camp!
3. Fun outfits for a new girl to wear

Enjoy!

Mark Brown is a fresh college graduate lucky enough to land a job at the Federal Investigation Agency in Arlington, VA. Although he has mostly been doing office work for his first few months, an opportunity arrives for him to gain experience as a field agent by going undercover in a special assignment in South Carolina. While the details are vague, he knows this is the right step to take in his career.

Accepting the offer, he is shocked to wake up in a medical center after surgery and cosmetic procedures that turn him into 16-year-old Kimberly Saxon! The FIA has discovered a drug-ring that may be circling around a high school and it is Mark’s undercover job as “Kimberly” to get to the bottom of it! Even if that means spending the summer at cheerleading camp to prepare for entering high school as a girl!

Part I covers the introduction of characters, Kimberly’s summer struggling learning how to be a girl with the help of a special agent, going to cheerleading camp and making friends, as well as finding out who her new parents are!
